For fast-acting relief, try slowing down.

My counseling approach is focused on helping you travel through life with more ease, authenticity, and humor. As a person-centered counselor, I create a supportive container where you may show up just as you are, free from judgment or expectations. The counseling process is an invitation to slow down and rest. Slowing down is challenging, but learning how to rest allows us to see clearly what is most important. Then we can identify and work through the habit patterns and beliefs that seem to get in the way of our happiness.

I was trained in rehabilitation counseling at Penn State. My experience as a counselor began at an inpatient treatment center, where I worked on a multidisciplinary team helping individuals and their families recover from addiction and mental illness. Since then I have worked for two outpatient counseling centers and opened my private practice in 2014. I have experience in many different treatment modalities, and will tailor my approach to best serve your needs. I was taught by Jack Kornfield, Tara Brach, and many other teachers on my path to becoming a certified mindfulness meditation teacher.

I have lived in North Carolina since 1993, and am very happy to call Hillsborough home. I live here with my wife and our dog, a husky-border collie mix. When I’m not in the office I enjoy hiking and backpacking, good coffee and conversation, funny movies, fantasy novels, raking leaves, learning and playing mandolin, and sitting with my meditation groups.

I offer free 30-minute consultations. For more information and specifics on areas of focus/specialities, please visit my website: www.gilbertmeditation.com.
